The Portable New B-3, like the New B-3 and New C-3, is an exact digital duplication of Hammond's original B-3 Organ...except that now you can enjoy the ability to take your instrument with you whenever you want, without special dollies. Because of its modular configuration, it is easy to set up and take down.
Pure Hammond
Since its introduction in 1955, the Hammond B-3 has become the essential performance tool for the world's great keyboard players. The instantly recognizable B-3 sound is synonymous with the world of popular and Gospel music. While no concert stage would seem complete without an old B-3's imposing wooden design, look at the Portable New B-3 with its simple clean lines, durable road-worthy construction and magnificent, glorious sound! No wonder Tower of Power has continued to tour with the Portable New B-3 for the better part of 15 years now.
Like Its Namesake
Hammond has exactly replicated the original B-3 design specifications with the New B-3 and now the New B-3 Mk2. The unique sound of the B-3 is reproduced by Hammond's Digital Tone Wheel™ system that faithfully recreates all of those wonderful idiosyncrasies of the original Hammond Tone Wheel Generator; something which, until now, has eluded all previously digital systems.
Waterfall Keys and Harmonic Drawbars
The two 61-note, B-3 style "waterfall key" keyboards allow for the essential performance characteristics and techniques of the Hammond masters. Palm swipes and palm glissandos are especially effortless (and without pain). The four complete sets of nine traditional Harmonic Drawbars and the reverse black and white key presets achieve total ease of set-up.
Analog Multi-Contact Key Switching
A crucial aspect of the performance of the B-3 is the key contact system. When a key is depressed, it closes nine small electrical contacts, each to their corresponding buss bar. Each contact causes on of the Drawbar pitches to sound. For the New B-3, Hammond has created a ne, patented key switch assembly called Direct Analog Keying. Each playing key contains 9 contacts that "make" and "break" individually, allowing each Drawbar harmonic to sound separately. The "key click" is therefore produced exactly the same way as it is on a vintage Hammond organ. There is no need to sample a key click sound and add it in.
The Portable New B-3 is in stock and ready for delivery or shipment. We have one "demo" unit that was loaned for several days to a motion picture studio for sound track recording.
