Leslie Speakers
The Leslie Rotary Speaker is to the Hammond Organ what a scoop of ice cream is to hot apple pie. The Leslie Speaker is a true, 360 degree loudspeaker that can make a room sound and feel bigger than it is. With the upper horn rotor spinning one direction while the bass rotor turns in the opposite direction, one experiences both a tremulant effect together with slight pitch rise and fall with the Doppler effect as the horn rotates towards and then away from the listener. In addition, the entire sound spectrum is in motion with the higher frequencies bouncing off of the walls with even the bounce points in motion as well! It is an exciting experience and Hammond and Leslie have perfected Don Leslie's concept so fully that today's speakers are very reliable with the majority of them producing the power necessary to operate independently of any sound reinforcement in all but larger venues.
